BSI to question MP's bodyguards
Glenroy Sinclair and Arthur Hall, Senior Staff Reporters

The Head of the of Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI), Assistant Commissioner Granville Gause, yesterday confirmed that he has made arrangements to interview the three policemen assigned to Member of Parliament James Robertson, as the probe deepens into an incident that followed a controversial shooting on Saturday.

In the meantime, a sub-officer who is investigating allegations against Robertson in the matter has written to Assistant Commissioner Les Green, requesting that he submits a statement, based on a conversation that Green had with the member of parliament on the day of the shooting.

"I am also making arrangements to interview Mr Robertson one day next week," said ACP Gause.

The BSI chief further disclosed that at least six firearms from the St Thomas Police Division have been sent to the Government's Forensic Laboratory for testing.

Contacted yesterday, ACP Green refused to comment on the request to provide a statement in relation to the matter, but sought to assure that the investigation will be full and thorough.

In the meantime, several residents of Norris yesterday voiced their support for the West St Thomas MP before travelling to the BSI to give statements on the events which transpired on Saturday.

Eyewitness claims

Other persons expressed anger at the allegations that Robertson used abusive language to the police.

"Him never disrespect them and them never disrespect him," one woman who claimed to have witnessed the incident told The Gleaner.

That is a claim endorsed by Robertson, who says he travelled from the Corporate Area to Norris after getting reports that the police were trying to kill a constituent named Rameish Simpson, who had already reported that his life was being threatened.

According to Robertson, he had informed senior members of the police force that he was going to Norris, where the shooting occurred.

Simpson was taken to the hospital by Robertson.
