No break yet in Pia Phillips case
The police are yet to make a breakthrough in the attempted robbery that resulted in the death of Immaculate High School head girl, Pia Phillips.

Detective Inspector Altimont Campbell told The Gleaner last week that two men suspected to be involved in the attempted robbery, which ended with Phillips being accidentally shot by her own father, were recently held by the police and placed on an identification parade. The men were, however, not pointed out.

Campbell said the matter was still being investigated and that the police were actively pursing the perpetrators who tried to rob the family outside their Havendale home in St Andrew.

On November 1 last year, Phillips was shot accidentally by her father, a licensed firearm holder, when he ran from the house to protect his wife and daughter from the men who had accosted them.

Phillips, who celebrated her 18th birthday the same day, had reportedly just arrived home with her mother from choir practice when the tragedy began to unfold at her gate.

Reports

Police reports are that Phillips and other family members were about to enter the house when two gunmen alighted from a car and demanded that they come to them.

The victims reportedly screamed and ran towards the house. Phillips' father, who was inside the house, pulled his gun and rushed to the defence of his family.

He slipped and the gun went off, hitting Phillips in her abdomen.
