Prime Minister Bruce Golding said yesterday that he has asked tax technicians to come up with a strategy to net income tax evaders as they work towards reforming the tax system.
"We are looking at the tax system because the tax system is inequitable; it makes us uncompetitive in attracting investment and it puts a heavy burden on some people while other people get away," Golding said.
The prime minister was speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party Area Council One meeting at Kingston High School.
In his Budget presentation last year, Golding said that apart from PAYE contributors, only 4,000 people are paying income tax.
