Who will dress Michelle Obama for the inauguration?

Michelle Obama stands on the stage with her equally stylish daughters ,Malia, 10, (right), and Sasha, seven (left), on the campaign trail.

The world waits with bated breath for history in the making at the inauguration of the first African-American president of the United States tomorrow.

From day one, the new first lady-in-waiting Michelle Obama, caught the eyes of the fashion world. Most fashion commentators see her sense of style as very unconventional for first ladies and a breath of fresh air. On the campaign trail everything Michelle Obama wore was scrutinised. The US$148 black and white print dress was completely sold out by the end of the day.

So whose label will the first African-American first lady be wearing to the main inauguration ball (there are several)? We will all just have to wait and see. But according to InStyle's website, bets are that it will be from one of the many designers she has been wearing on the campaign trail.

Isabel Toledo

Michelle Obama attended a Calvin Klein-hosted fund-raiser in a tunic and palazzo pants from Isabel Toledo. It's also reported that she has picked up several of the former Anne Klein designer dresses from Chicago's Ikram boutique.

Toledo is known as a master of geometric and pattern shapes. "Mrs Obama has a natural grace," Toledo has told Latina. "She has an amazing poised body language. Her torso is that of a dancer."

Narciso Rodriguez

Obama chose an eye-catching two-tone cocktail dress from Narciso Rodriguez for the election night festivities. She has also worn the designer's horizontal-striped suit and gem-embellished red shift.

Jason Wu

In November, Michelle Obama and her husband Barack were interviewed by Barbara Walters. Mrs Obama wore a rosette-trimmed sheath from Jason Wu. "It was a little surreal," the young designer told the Wall Street Journal of seeing the style-setting first lady-to-be in his career-making dress.

Oscar de la Renta

Obama attended a California conference in a houndstooth sheath from Oscar de la Renta's fall 2007 collection. She has also hit the campaign trail in a Global-inspired print suit from the design house.

"Mrs Obama is certainly stylish and very good looking," de la Renta has told WWD. "It will be great for any American designer to dress her."

Maria Pinto

Michelle Obama has been photographed in a number of designs from Pinto. She wore a purple Maria Pinto dress on the campaign trail in June. Pinto has been her go-to designer for the past few years.

Whoever designs the first lady's inaugural gown, it will be a show-stopper.
