Best & worst Bush memories

The Rev Ralph Hoyte, member, Rotary Club of Kingston:

I have no good memories of the Bush administration, none at all. When I see Bush on the television, I switch the channel. In terms of the worst, I would have to say the 9/11 (terrorist attacks on the United States of America on September 11, 2001) and his response.

  • O. Dave Allen, Community activist:

The worst memory I have of him was the protracted statement he made to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I can't recall any best memory of his presidency.

Ray Kerr, president of the Clifton Farmers' Association:

The best memory I can recall about George Bush was after the 2008 presidency election that Obama won, he was very diplomatic and accommodating to Obama's views. But the worst memory of him was his involvement in the war in Iraq.

Theo Chambers, president of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce:

My worst memory of George W. Bush is his conscious decision to do things the way he feels it should be done without the opinion of others even at a time when his ranking in the public polls were low. My best memory will be on January 20.

Christopher Issa, president, Rotary Club of Kingston:

The Iraq war (was my worst memory of the Bush administration), and the better times, of the economy when interest rates were very low and when the stock and housing markets were doing well before the crash.

    Ed Bartlett, minister of tourism:

It is a difficult question because his years were enmeshed within global controversies and war. I must say his administration was unfortunate to be mired in controversy, war and economic recession.

Glenda Miller, president of the Kiwanis Club of Providence:

My worst memory of him was his initial reaction when he was told about the 9/11 incident while he was at another function, his facial expression did not reflect one of compassion and concern at the time. I really don't recall a best memory of him.

    Robert MacMillan, businessman:

My best memory of Bush was his rallying of the spirits of the American people while the most unfortunate would be the Iraq war.

Lloyd B. Smith, president, Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce:

My best memory of him was after 9/11 when he visited Ground Zero to talk to the firefighters and persons involved in the rescue process. However, my worst memory was the case he made to go to war in Iraq about weapons of mass destruction.

    Sarah Newland-Martin, YMCA administrator:

I cannot think of the best but the worst is the war in Iraq; I think too many valuable human lives have been lost.

Sheldon Freeburn, president of the Leo Club of Montego Bay:

I can honestly say that I do not have any best memory of the current US President George Bush other than when he leaves the White House on January 20.
