Miller saves, Harbour View

HARBOUR VIEW assistant coach, Donovan 'DV' Hayles, sounded a bit ungrateful last night after goalie Dwayne Miller made save after save for the 10-man visitors against Tivoli Gardens, to force a 0-0 draw in Digicel Premier League action at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

"He did his job. We got far enough chances to have scored in the first half," snapped Hayles, who seemed more intent on bashing referee Raymond Bogle, who sent Lovel Palmer to an early shower in the 68th minute for what he later said was "insulting and abusive language".

Goalless draw

The goalless draw moved Harbour View to 38 points, level with leaders and champions Portmore United, who were down to face struggling Waterhouse in the late kick-off at Ferdie Neita Park.

Tivoli, who moved to 35, still fourth on goal difference, did everything but score, denied by Miller's brilliance and nerves in front goal. The most glaring being Kemar Mills, who unbelievably kicked wide from inside the six-yard box with Miller down and out of the picture after parrying a corner at his back post.

Tivoli Gardens coach Lenworth Hyde was far more complimenting of Miller, after the Harbour View goalie twice in either half denied Tivoli's Navion Boyd with brilliant saves.

"Dwayne Miller, wow," Hyde marvelled. "We all know Dwayne. As you can see, he was excellent today. He has been working with the national coach, Clive Wedderburn and we saw it today," he added.

Boyd was on fire all evening, testing Miller with air and ground assaults from as early as the eighth minute, a snap shot from inside the box, which the goalie stopped with his feet before making a reflex save while still on the seat of his shorts.

Craig Stewart was next and watched as Miller got what must have been a fingernail to the ball, diving full stretch to his right and parrying the Tivoli midfielder's 34th minute shot for a corner.

With three minutes left in the first half, Boyd dribbled to his right at 22 yards and let fly a beautiful shot which had goal written all over before Miller spectacularly soared to his left and plucked the ball from mid-air.

Harbour View came out more determined after the break but still could not cope with a midfield which Hyde packed in a 4-5-1 formation, shutting down the visitors' distributor, Richard Edwards.

Hyde, a two-time Harbour View coach, who did duties at Compound as recent as last season, said a packed midfield was deliberate.

"Edwards is the man that plays the football," Hyde said. "That's why we had 'Saviola' (Mills) in there. We came to shut him down, nullifying the passing lane to Jermaine Hue and Rafeik Thomas."
