  • Japan's most stolen vehicle is ...

The most stolen vehicle in Japan is ... the Toyota Hiace van! The Hiace has been creeping up the charts since 2005 when it was barely in the top 10. Now, it's number one. The theft of SUVs and luxury cars have dropped. That's probably more to do with the anti-theft devices on those vehicles, which might have caused theft rings to target vans such as the Hiace instead, because they usually don't have immobilisers. After steeling the vans, they generally chop them up and ship them to developing countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. That's where Hiaces often show up as taxis, buses, or utility vehicles.

  • Re-styled 2010Toyota Camry

ToMoCo has taken the wraps off the redesigned 2010 Camry. Due to go on sale this March, the re-styled Camry offers the same practicality as a Maytag, but features a few engineering and design tweaks to bring it into the next decade. The Camry gets a set of restyled taillights, new front bumper with enlarged air intakes and new headlights. Power from the engine will be 169hp 2.5-litre VVT-i four-cylinder and a 268hp V6 and can either be hooked up with a 6sp manual or a 6sp automatic, a hybrid version is also available. The Camry is the best selling passenger car in America for the past seven years running. I wonder if Howard Foster is ordering a few hybrids in the next shipment of Toyotas?

  • 2010 Ford Fusion scores best-in-class 23/34 mpg!

The Ford Fusion was driven in California after the LA Auto Show; The Environmental Protection Agency has just finished crunching the numbers on fuel consumption for the four-cylinder Fusion and the results were very good. The 2.5L four-cylinder with new six-speed automatic is rated at 23 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway. By comparison, the 2009 2.3L Fusion was rated at just 20/28 mpg. Those numbers posted by the EPA has put the fusion to be the best four-cylinder mid-size sedan sold in the United States, beating the likes of Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet and Hyundai.

  • Buemi confirmed for Toro Rosso

Swiss rookie Sebastien Buemi will race for Toro Rosso in Formula One this season. Buemi, 20, competed in the GP2 support series last year and was also reserve driver for Toro Rosso's sister team Red Bull Racing. Bourdais remain hopeful of staying on for a second season, but Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso has also been testing Japan's Takuma Sato. Buemi will be the first Swiss driver to compete in F1 since Jean-Denis Deletraz raced without success for the Pacific Ford team in 1995. Buemi's first track outing as an official Toro Rosso driver will be in testing at the Portimao circuit in Portugal later this month. Sebastien Buemi was also here in Jamaica in May of last year when he displayed his driving skills in New Kingston, wonder if the likes of Shama Johnson can bring him back, but he will be rather busy going up against Lewis Hamilton.

  • Mitsubishi killing the Raider pick-up

The United States (US) is quickly losing its supply of small-volume, badge-engineered trucks. At the end of February, Isuzu plans to shut off its passenger-vehicle business in the US, taking the Ascender SUV and i-Series pickups along with it. There is word that Mitsubishi will drop the Raider pick-up, which is a restyled Dodge Dakota. The slow-selling truck will go into oblivion sometime next year, as Mitsubishi looks to overhaul its product line-up in order to focus more on fuel-efficient small cars. The Raider has been around since 2005, and while it has never been a big seller, last year, the mid-size pick-up sold fewer than 3,000 units.

  • BMW most fuel-efficient car

BMW will launch its most fuel-efficient and cleanest car ever, later this year. The new BMW 116d gets a remarkable 64.2mpg. The new car will have 116hp and 192 ft lb of torque at 1750rpm, from its 1995cc four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The car can do 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds and have a top speed of 125mph. The base price of the BMW 116d starts at £17,000, and will go on sale in March.

  • Volvo most powerful truck

According to Volvo Trucks, the Swedish car-maker has made the world's most powerful semi-truck (trailer). The FH16 700 is the company range topper and at the heart of the matter is the D16G engine. The truck's engine puts out to the 700 horsepower and 2,323lb of torque from its 16-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel. Volvo says it's quieter and more efficient than its predecessor, as well as being clean enough to meet the Euro five emissions standards that are scheduled to take effect later this year. Three cab styles are offered, but I would love to see whether any will make it this to Truck Fest this year.

  • Ronaldo crashes Ferrari 599 GTB

Manchester Untied Cristiano Ronaldo crashed his Ferrari 599 GTB, but Ronaldo's troubles might go further, as he is reportedly uninsurable. The crash happened as the Portuguese footballer was headed to practice with his team, Manchester United, when he lost control of the Ferrari in a tunnel under the Manchester Airport. Ronaldo was uninjured in the crash. His teammate, Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, was driving behind in his own Bentley. Van der Sar pulled over to aide his teammate. Although shaken up, the pair drove to the Manchester United practice in van der Sar's luxury coupe. The cost of Ronaldo's wrecked 599GTB is £200,000, Ronaldo has an impressive collection of vehicles, including a Bugatti Veyron, Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, two Porsche Cayennes, and a BMW M6. The following day after the crash Ronaldo showed up for training in his own Bentley Continental GT Speed. It's good to be a footballer.
