Woman dies in crash

A WOMAN was killed and 14 persons injured in a motor-vehicle collision in Sandy Bay, Clarendon, yesterday morning.

Dead is Melrose Anderson, 27, of Cheapside, Manchester. Seven men and seven women with addresses in Manchester, Clarendon, St Andrew and Portland were injured.

The police say the accident occurred about 7:15 a.m. as a white Toyota Hiace minibus, travelling along the Bustamante Highway towards Kingston with passengers aboard, collided with a white Isuzu pickup, travelling in the opposite direction.

The bus overturned and fell on Anderson, who had been thrown from the vehicle. She died on the spot. The 14 injured persons were taken to the May Pen Hospital where 10 were treated and released and four admitted in stable condition.

The driver of the Isuzu pickup has since been taken into custody by investigators from the May Pen Traffic Department.

At least 20 people have lost their lives on the nation's streets since the start of the year.
