Last Monday as I watched the finale of Mamma's Boy on NBC TV, I became very annoyed at JoJo Bojanowski and his mother Khalood (Mrs B).
I have nothing against mamma's boys, I just don't date them. The whole basis of the show is to throw 30 girls in a house with the mothers of the three bachelors and see who the mothers pick as the best fit for their sons. Each week a number of girls are eliminated until there is a top 10. The finale takes place in the US Virgin Islands with two girls for each guy - one selected by the mother, and the other by the son.
Bachelors and moms
The bachelors are Michael Sarysz, JoJo and Robert Kluge, along with their mothers, Lorraine, Mrs B and Ester, respectively.
From the beginning, Mrs B was trouble. She announced that among the long list of things she wanted for her son, the girl could not be black, but she claimed she wasn't racist. Of course, this ticked off some of the girls in the house and from day one there were clashes. Some of the black girls deliberately went after JoJo to annoy her.
In the end, when she was supposed to choose one girl to accompany her son to the Caribbean, she said none was good enough and went herself.
Unhealthy relationship
That was where being a mamma's boy is just unhealthy! It was as if she wanted her son for herself! In the end, the girl her son chose said she was bowing out as they would never be happy. This prompted JoJo to pick her to go on a three-day romantic cruise over his mother. Mrs B is not a happy woman right now.
Throughout the entire series the mothers were always in the boys' business. The girl whom Lorraine chose for her son, Erica, revealed in the final episode that she had posed nude for Penthouse magazine, this was after Lorraine persuaded her son to send home a girl she didn't like because she had posed for Playboy. Robert's relationship lasted for three days because his mother forced him to pick her just because she was Jewish.
So we asked the questions:
Does mother always know best? What would you do if you fell in love with a girl your mother did not approve of?
Josh, 27
I would keep the girl but I would evaluate why my mom doesn't approve. But if I think I have a winner, I would keep her. If she has a flaw that I know of that might cause problems down the road, I might take my mom's advice.
James, 25
Depends on why she doesn't like her. I would try to convince my mom but I wouldn't just leave her because my mom doesn't like her.
Jim, 30
It's not my mom that I'm dealing with, it's the girl. I'm the one who has to like her, not my mom.
Obviously, these guys aren't mamma's boys.
