"We want peace, no more war" were the chants of several students from preparatory schools in Montego Bay, who gathered in Sam Sharpe Square for a Peace Day march yesterday.
"I wanted to be part of change in my country where we can have peace and love and where there is no more killing and war," nine-year-old Kelly-Ann Roberts of Unity Preparatory School told The Gleaner.
Bearing a placard with the words; 'Stop Shedding Blood and Start Shedding Love', young Kelly-Ann said her reason for participating in the Peace Day activity was to lend her voice to the clamour against crime and violence in Jamaica.
Coordinator of the Peace Day march and principal of St Evans Preparatory, Phillip Haughton, revealed that the activity was hosted annually in collaboration with preparatory schools in Montego Bay to echo "our voices against crime and violence".
The Peace Day activities for the group included hosting a prayer session and getting the public involved in singing peace songs.
