Tivoli, Portmore showdown
Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

League contenders Tivoli Gardens and Portmore United will begin the hunt to increase their trophy tallies, when they square off on yet another occasion, in the second round of the Flow Champions Cup at the Edward Seaga Stadium at 6 p.m. today.

Having already won a title each - Portmore the second end-of-round trophy and Tivoli the KSAFA Jackie Bell crown - the Champions Cup would be a welcome addition to their cabinet. However, only one team will have a chance to move to the next round.

"It's a tough way to start the competition, I don't know that we would have chosen them as opponents but that is football and you just have to be ready for what comes," said Tivoli's coach Max Straw.

Challenging fixture

"We are ready to face the challenge, we beat them the last time they were here. It gives us some encouragement, but every game is a different and it is about the performance on a given day," he added.

Linval Dixon, coach of Portmore United, also expects the fixture to be challenging.

"We want to approach this game with a positive frame of mind, the winner will move on, the loser goes home, we are prepared for that and looking to come out on top," he said.

"They are a tough team to beat, they will be at home and confident, but we have beaten them before at home and the players will have the confidence to do so," he added.

Tough season

In the day's other games defending champions Waterhouse will get their cup defence under way when they host Sporting Central Academy at the Drewsland Mini Stadium. The homesters will be looking to rebound from a tough loss to Rivoli on the weekend, while the struggling Sporting Central will be looking for a spark to kick-start a tough season.

Harbour View may have a bit of revenge on their minds when they host Meadhaven, a team which dumped them out of the KSAFA Jackie Bell competition, while a struggling Reno will face St Georges at the Frome Sports Complex.
