DON WEHBY, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, has announced a new board for Caymanas Track Limited (CTL).
With Montego Bay businessman Anthony Hart as chairman, the new board replaces the previous one for which Pat Rousseau was chairman. However, in light of a scathing report by Contractor General Gregg Christie re the activities of the Rousseau-led board - this in a 187-page report - the members handed in their resignations last week.
The new board was announced yesterday, via teleconference, following cabinet approval on Monday.
Trainer
In addition to Hart, who is the owner of Good Hope Farm near Falmouth in Trelawny, the board comprises owner/breeder Raphael Gordon, retired senior partner at accounting firm Peat Marwick; Danville Walker, director of Customs; Chris Armond, the former vice-president of racing and promotions at CTL; former trainer Howard McKenzie; Camille Buchanan, councillor for the Gregory Park division of the St Catherine Parish Council, as well as owner/trainer and Jamaica Broilers Finance Director Ian Parsard, who has been reappointed from the previous board, for the sake of continuity, according to Wehby.
An eighth director, who will be a representative of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, is to be named.
Wehby said he saw an urgent need to make Caymanas Park profitable and has charged the new board to find ways of growing revenue at the racetrack.
