Poor parental conduct
The Editor, Sir:

A kind of frenzy seems to have taken hold of the minds of some of our parents. It has now become commonplace for some of them to padlock school gates and parents and students to mount noisy demonstrations while bearing placards.

When will the parents realise that they are jeopardising their children's future? One incident, highlighted on the television on the evening of March 10, was not amusing, in which the Fire Brigade had to be called to get padlocks on the gate cut off. Is there nothing that the Government can do to prevent this? By all means, air your views parents, but not to the detriment of the students.

Misused

I am positive that if as parents you had gone through the proper channel then the situation would not have escalated the way it did. It's high time that we highlight some positive things about our students. They are being abused, misused and even killed. Let them enjoy their school days. They have a right to education, but not to be trained in how to man barricades.

I am, etc.,

ROSE GRAHAM
