Lenny Hyde Sr
Technical director of Tivoli Gardens Football Club, Lenworth Hyde Sr., said he is heartened by his team's 4-1 victory on Sunday over Village United in their Digicel Premier League encounter at Railway Oval.
"The team played well after coming off a defeat in their last encounter. It is a very good feeling and we will take it to the other matches in the competition,'' said Hyde.
Under very cool conditions, Village took the attack to the home team from kick-off through Ian McAnuff, Orlando McBayne, André Williams and Errol Bryan.
However, they failed to score and Tivoli gradually came into their own as Navion Boyd netted in the 32nd minute. He raced away from his marker and drilled a sweet, low shot from just outside the penalty box that beat goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett, making it 1-0.
The lead was doubled two minutes later when Roland Dean collected a pass in the 18-yard box and deftly lobbed the ball over the head of the advancing 'keeper, making the half-time score 2-0.
Busy defenders
On the resumption, Tivoli played with more purpose as Oraine Simpson, Owen 'Bam Bam' Gordon, Sheldon Palmer and the veteran Steve Green kept the Village defenders busy.
However, Village made the most significant play, in the 52nd minute, when they were awarded a penalty that was converted by Troy Smith to reduce the deficit.
With a slight advantage, Tivoli surprisingly started to play gallery-style football and reaped rewards to they silence the critics. A defensive error in the 78th minute saw a cross from Green spilling to the unmarked Oraine Simpson, who calmly slotted home to make it 3-1.
With the wind knocked out of the Village team's sails, Tivoli went on to add another goal in the 90th minute when Jermaine Taylor finished off a pass from Simpson.
Mervin White, the coach of Village, said a lapse in concentration cost his team.
''We did not sustain any level of concentration and that's why we lost the match," he said.
