Jamaica triumphs in Brussels

The weather was uncharacteristically sunny for early spring in Brussels, but it was the perfect backdrop for an amazing triumph by Jamaica, especially, and fashion from African, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) countries, in general, as the ACP Fashion Show rocked the Palais de Beaux Arts in that city last Thursday.

Before a huge audience of diplomats, government ministers and other officials, as well as fashion industry insiders, Jamaica's supermodels from Pulse stood out among a line-up of mannequins, showing the best in fashion from the featured regions. Jamaica, representing the Caribbean, drew raves from an ecstatic audience.

Outpouring of congratulations

From the region, several Caribbean culture ministers surrounded Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, head of Jamaica's delegation to the Brussels Colloquium, with an outpouring of congratulations at the high level of Jamaica's performance. Asked her opinion of the event, Minister Grange responded, "Excellent!"

The designs were outstanding, with the Jamaican contingent receiving a great response and Kofi Ansah from Ghana, whose dramatic collection closed the show, doing the same.

Ellena Cavioni ably represented the Cook Islands. In the finale, however, the obvious stars of the show were the Jamaican models whose regal and stunning beauty made the African ceremonial collection especially fabulous. Together with the designers, they drew a standing ovation from a very knowledgeable and sophisticated audience.
