Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

The fatal shooting of an intruder yesterday morning has caused unease among staff at Lee's Fifth Avenue department store in St Andrew.

Up to press time, the police were still trying to determine the identity of the man, who was shot in a alleged confrontation with law-enforcement personnel.

For most of yesterday, workers at Lee's Fifth Avenue store, located at Tropical Plaza along Constant Spring Road, were forced to remain outside while police personnel processed the scene.

"Mi still frighten about what happen. You can see that a long time him inside the place until him could write pon de wall in red ink. Him really bright (arrogant),'' remarked a female onlooker.

Store Manager Anmarie Harris was visibly shaken by the incident that unfolded about 10:55 am.

"The store was opened by me this morning (Sunday) and, having observed that an area close to where the lingerie are being displayed was not as we left it, we decided to call in the security and they came quickly," Harris told The Gleaner.

Harris said the clothing store had been ransacked and the walls defaced with graffiti.

The Half-Way Tree police, who responded to a distress call, said the man attacked a member of the party. The man was shot and pronounced dead at hospital.

The police did not disclose whether the man was armed.
