Boys' Town moved a step closer to securing at least one major trophy this season, when they defeated St Catherine's Rivoli United 4-0 in the semi-finals of the all-island Flow Champions Cup knockout competition, at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
They will meet neighbours Tivoli Gardens, who beat Waterhouse 1-0 in the second semi-final, which was played at the same venue.
Oraine Simpson scored the winning goal for Tivoli Gardens, in the 28th minute.
The final will be played on Sunday, April 26.
One-man advantage
Handed a one-man advantage after Rivoli's front-line midfielder Valentine Gardener was ejected in the seventh minute for violent and dangerous play, the Red Brigade triumphed on goals from Peter Keyes, Renae Lloyd, Kemar Petrekin and captain Michael Campbell.
Keyes, who has been prolific in both the premier league and the Champions Cup, opened the scoring for the men from Collie Smith Drive in the 11th minute when he found himself on the end of a cross inside the area.
Lloyd made it 2-0 before half-time when he capitalised on a goal-mouth melee.
Substitute Petrekin, who was introduced at the start of the second half and looked ominous from the get-go, then produced a brilliant solo effort in the 65th to make it 3-0.
The former Bridgeport High and Harbour View forward picked up a ball midway Rivoli's half and after turning three defenders inside out, released a bomber which rocketed past the outstretched goalkeeper, Selvin Collins, and crashed into the roof the net.
Campbell then rounded off the scoring a minute from time when, after faking Collins into a diving save, he was presented with an open net to which he duly obliged with a cheeky chip, much to the amusement of spectators in the stands.
"We have a wide assortment of goal scorers and it was good to see four of them stepping up today. I am happy with the way we played and the fact that we are through to the final," said Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town.
"We now await the winner of the other semi-final, where we hope to keep on scoring and lift our first title of season," he added.
Losing Gardener
Rivoli's assistant coach, Oneil Thomas, who was standing in for head coach Bradley Stewart, who is off the island, said losing Gardener badly affected their plans.
"We went a man down early and it caused us to lose our shape. This allowed Boys' Town space, which they used to their advantage. Having said that though, I thought if we had scored some of the chances we had created, it would have been a different game. But such is life," said Thomas.
