Cabinet or what-not?

Daviot Kelly

Bwoy, just as I was getting used to the Cabinet and who was in charge of what, Ma'as Tacius boy (if I may borrow from the late great Leminotep) has done it again.

While a shuffling of the pack was perhaps necessary, I'm not sure if he's done the best shuffling there is. True, his dominoes probably aren't the best hand any player has ever been dealt, but they're not the worst either. Either way, with Kelly's World logic, I tell you who's a winner and who's not.

First things first, the new security minister is Dwight Nelson. Nice guy and all, but I'm not sure if he's the man for the job. So I might have to call him a loser. He is taking over a ministry which I'm not sure one person can manage, plus he's leaving one which he seemed somewhat comfortable in. So, in both ways, he's a loser.

Colonel Trevor MacMillan would have to be considered a loser even if he walked instead of being pushed, as some think. He reminds me of René Simoes. Both inspired me the first time they came to prominence. Their second times around, the magic seems to have escaped them both. Too bad. Happy putting, colonel.

Clive Mullings went from having three top ministries (telecoms, energy and mining) to having none. Why did he step? Search me!

Derrick Smith is a nice person; a party man who stuck by the green when things were looking 'blue' for the party. But the security ministry was too much and then, even with the new duties he was given, he still wasn't doing so well, especially in light of his health issues.

WINNERS

The two fellows I consider controversial, Daryl Vaz and James Robertson, are the biggest winners. Let's face it, Robertson was always seen (by some) to be minister material. Of course, Vaz gets a bunch of things to do now that he's back in the House. With all the menu items on his plate, he might secretly wonder if he was better off winning in West Portland. But they're young and vibrant so, do your thing fellas!

A winner

'Babsy' Grange is a winner in my view. Sure, she loses the information portfolio, but I think we all agree she had too much to do in the first place. Her responsibilities should have been trimmed long time!

Then good old Don Wehby is going back to the cushy job he had before the service to country bug bit him. So we know he's not losing; in fact, he's getting some decent pay now in comparison to his government job. You the don, Don!

This latest reshuffle just reminds me why I never got into politics; too much stress! Later.
