In anticipation of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations in May, high-school students in the west took one final opportunity to participate in The Gleaner's Youthlink CSEC Seminar on Wednesday.
A huge contingent from William Knibb High School turned out for both sessions.
Vanessa Clarke, a 10th-grade student from St James High School in Montego Bay, noted: "I have received a lot of information from the English session that I have attended. I now have a better understanding of what the persons grading the exams are looking for, so I have a clearer understanding of what I need to do."
She added: "I will only be doing English this year and this helped my to be better prepared for the upcoming exam."
The culmination of the CSEC examination techniques seminar, in the Second City, followed the turnout of a huge crowd that was in Westmoreland on Monday. The Montego Bay seminar, similar to the previous seminars, providing both mathematics and English sessions. However, it was veteran English teacher Godfrey Fisher who offered an entertaining component to his lecture.
Pass-paper practice
Fisher stressed that students practise pass papers in order to familiarise themselves with the format of the exams.
"I know some of you may have jitters during your exams, but I want to assure you that once you have spent the time to practise and understand the usage of the English language, you will not fail your exam," he said.
Fisher further revealed that it was important that students be well rested before they sit their exams so that they do not risk being too tired to complete the important exams.
The Gleaner's Youthlink CSEC Seminar saw teachers - who are markers of the CSEC and teachers of English language, principles of accounts, information technology and mathematics - providing effective and useful guidelines to students.
