WESTERN BUREAU:

Meadhaven United eked out a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Village United in their Digicel Premier League game at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth yesterday.

Danger man Weston Forrest opened the scoring for Meadhaven in the 15th minute. He scored with an unexpected shot that caught keeper Elvis Hart off guard.

Village's reply was stunning when Radcliff Hall combined well with two other attackers to nullify the Meadhaven defence and score in the 28th minute.

Against the run of play, Meadhaven knocked the wind out of Village when Keammar Daley out-muscled the Village defence to score in the last minute of regulation time.

Ferocious fight

Even winning coach Alrick Clarke admitted the ferocious fight from the opponent.

"It was a hard-fought victory but we are happy we got the three points, we are fighting to come out of the relegation zone and this will do us good."

New coach of Village United, Cassman Williams, was peeved at the defeat.

"It comes down to discipline, players cannot follow instructions and rather do their own thing and this is the outcome," he said.

Village are bottom of the 12-team standings on 23 points, while Meadhaven, though remaining third from bottom, moved to 29.
