Aubyn Hill expands horizons

Banker Aubyn Hill who, a year ago, ventured into small business financing, is assuming yet another role - that of overseer of orderly developments.

Hill, who is also a business consultant and the man leading the divestment of Jamaica's sugar industry, has been named chair of the St Elizabeth Parish Develop-ment Committee (PDC).

He was elected to the position May 28 at the annual meeting of the PDC in Santa Cruz. The committee has 12 other executives.

PDCs, which work in tandem with the local parish councils, oversee the orderly, or as Black River mayor and chair of the St Elizabeth Parish Council Jeremy Palmer put it, the 'structured' development of the parishes in which they sit.

The PDC is to be chaired by international business consultant, Aubyn Hill, supported by a 12-member executive.

Hill said he will be working with community leaders, farm groups and other stakeholders in the parish to strengthen and achieve meaningful development for the parish.

"We don't have any choice but to work and make sure that we work as hard as we can, to educate every citizen in this parish on how we can move forward," said a government news agency report quoting Hill.

"What we are setting out today is a road map for the future. We have possibly the greatest potential for tourism development in the island, and we need to put down on paper where this parish can and ought to go," said Palmer.

New technical manager at Berger

Gladys Miller has been appointed regional technical manager for Berger Caribbean, according to a recent stock market filing by Berger Paints Jamaica Limited. The appointment, however, dates back to January 1, 2009. Miller now has responsibility for technical activities of manufacturing operations in Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad, the Berger notice said.
