Always wanted to feel closer to the women participating in the Miss Jamaica World pageant? Now it's only a click away. Organisers recently announced that the public can be kept up to date on the pageant through popular social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
"The Miss Jamaica World Facebook group allows members to view photos, videos and keep tabs on the latest events and happenings with the pageant and has proven to be a very effective supplement to the pageants official website," a press release stated.
"The pageant has also set up a Twitter account, allowing pageant organisers to post 'tweets' or short messages with status updates for interested persons to follow online or via their mobile phones."
The added interactivity, the organisers said, would make participation easier.
"The use of social networking, combined with the other new and traditional media to support the pageant this year is of particular relevance, given the introduction of the Interlinc People's Choice Competition where members of the public will vote for a contestant to be part of the Top 10. Votes are cast online via the official website, missjamaicaworld2009.com and the contestant with the most votes on coronation night, prior to the selection of the Top 10, will gain an automatic placement," said the release.
