CMC:
Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is doubtful for Jamaica's international friendly next month against Ecuador because of an injury he suffered last weekend playing US Major League Soccer (MLS) for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Ricketts suffered hip injuries while attempting to make a save Saturday night for the LA Galaxy against the Kansas City Wizards at Community-America Ballpark in Kansas City.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) requested from LA the services of Ricketts for the August 12 Ecuador match in New Jersey but Galaxy officials have formally notified the local governing body of the shot stopper's injury.
He is set to miss the Galaxy's next MLS game against the New England Revolution on August 8 and his participation in the Ecuador match is now very unlikely.
Ricketts, 32, was injured trying to prevent a spectacular goal by Kansas City's Claudio Lopez.
Seeing Ricketts off his line, the Argentine Lopez hit a perfect long-range shot to score from the half-line in what he told reporters was the best goal of the career.
Running back to prevent the goal, Ricketts crashed violently into the post with a diving effort and hurt his hip. He was substituted moments later.
The match ended 1-1 as forward Landon Donovan and England international David Beckham combined for a fine equaliser in the 33rd minute.
Beckham fed Donovan with a perfect pass that pierced the Wizards' defence and the United States international struck an accurate low right-footer off the inside of the post into the goal for LA's equaliser.
Though Jamaica's assistant coach, Bradley Stewart, had not yet heard about Rickett's possible unavailability for the Ecuador game, he said there were adequate contingencies were that to be the case.
"From time to time we have players who are unavailable for various reasons but we have capable goalkeepers in (Duwayne) Kerr from Portmore and (Dwayne) Miller from Harbour View. They will fit in quite well, I think," he said.
