Nation building has always been a top priority for Carreras Limited, according to the company's managing director, Michael Bernard. And one way in which the company has gone about fulfilling this, through its 'Empowering Through Education' programme. This year, 10 tertiary students have been awarded with scholarships by the company for their excellence in academics and community involvement.
To recognise the company's fulfilment and in celebrating the awardees' achievements, Carreras Limited hosted its grand gala scholarship awards banquet at the Hilton Kingston Jamaica on Wednesday evening. Awardees and other guests turned up at the ballroom which was beautifully decorated in gold and blue.
Commencing with cocktails, those out for the night mingled in between sips of cocktails and used the opportunity to network. This saw guests being guided throughout the night by emcee Michael Anthony Cuffe. During a scrumptious three-course meal, they were entertained by students of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Everyone listened keenly to the keynote address by Education Minister Andrew Holness.
Scholarship awardees were selected from three community colleges with a total of five recipients. Edna Manley of the Visual and Performing Arts had four recipients. Chenelle Taylor, the top scholar, received the post-graduate scholarship and is now studying for her master's degree at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in the United States of America.
