JUTC hits back at Millwood

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has responded to claims made by National Transport Co-operative Society (NTCS), that while the company owes the Government monies, the amount owed is unclear.

In an article in The Sunday Gleaner of October 11, head of NTCS, Ezroy Millwood, was quoted as saying, "We have paid nothing for 2009. The Government is only saying that we owe, but has not stated an amount, and so we can't pay anything until we know for sure what they are asking for."

But Corporate Communications Manager Reginald Allen, in a press release, stated that NTCS clearly knows the figures involved because it has been contesting them, so the reported claim was without foundation.

He said that the Ministry of Transport and Works, pursuant to a decision of the Cabinet, advised the NTCS earlier this year of the Government's requirement for the society to wind up its operations by December 2.

The move would leave JUTC responsible for operating or making arrangements for bus operations on a number of additional routes within the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region, which are currently being serviced by the NTCS.
