Jamaica College (JC) kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the Walker Cup KO play-off by hammering Donald Quarrie 8-0 in their Group A ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football match at the JC playing field yesterday.

The impressive win allowed JC to move up to 24 points, one less than group leaders Waterford, who defeated Pembroke Hall 3-0. JC will be looking to move to the summit of the group when they play their final group match against Pembroke Hall next week Tuesday.

Captain Ashani Walker (18th, 66th, 83rd minutes) and Nicholas Scott (26th, 68th, 90th), each netted a hat-trick, while Konrick Reeves (25th, 62nd) rounded out the scoring with a double.

Walker has now scored 11 goals and has big ambitions for the rest of the season.

"I want my team to win the triple and I just want to play some good football and get another national call," Walker said. "I want to score 20 goals this season."

His team's assistant coach, Delroy Brown, was pleased.

"Donald Quarrie weren't really giving us much competition so we just went out there and scored the goals that were on offer and just wrapped up the game," Brown said.

"We definitely will win the game in hand against Pembroke Hall and secure the Walker Cup spot," a confident Brown added.

Team was underprepared

Donald Quarrie's coach, Owen Wright, conceded that his team was underprepared.

"From we lost the game against Pembroke Hall, we basically stopped training and just honoured the fixtures," a dejected Wright said. "Hopefully, we will retain some of the players for next season and I will continue working with them."
