FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

It was a musical delight when the Jamaica College Chapel Choir presented Mozart's Sancta Maria and Mendelssohn's Hear My Prayer at the St Peter's Anglican Church, Falmouth on Sunday.

Accompanied by Stephanie Williams and conducted by Randall Campbell with soloist Kemar Lee, the small but appreciative audience was treated to musical excellence.

It opened with Mozart's soothing Ave Verum and closed with the ever-popular Handel's Hallelujah chorus.

While the total package was exceptional, the rendition of the Carol of the Bells, O Holy Night, a rearranged Jingle Bells and Joy to the World was amazing. With the dwindling tenor voices, Lee's counter tenor particularly the rendition of O Holy Night got a loud applause.

People sometimes question the necessity for conductors during musical presentations, but scepticism would have been put to rest, as director Campbell was able to get a response for every move.

Some in the congregation bemoaned the absence of the old-time cantata, in recent times, for the more popular gospel entertainment, and were glad for this presentation and hoped for more shows of this type.

This presentation will be taken to the St Dunstan's Chapel at Jamaica College on Sunday, December 20 and the Saxthorpe Methodist Church on Sunday, January 3.
