'Gov't is a parasite'
AT LEAST one major player in the horse-racing industry has described the Government's behaviour towards Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) as parasitic.

Racehorse owner, Andrew Azar, charged yesterday that the Govern-ment's main interest in CTL was to pull on its earnings, without reinvesting in the entity.

"The Government has really been a bit of a parasite on this company, in that anybody that has a business, and it's a business that has a profit and you keep sucking out the profit without ploughing back anything to the plant, the upkeep of the product itself, what's gonna happen? Your business is going to go down, and the infrastructure is going to fall to pieces. That's what's happening," he charged.

CTL is a government-owned entity managed by the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. At present, it has sole responsibility for the promotion of horse racing locally.

Azar was participating in a discussion yesterday in Gordon House, where a select committee of Parliament was examining the Casino Gaming Act and legislation to Amend the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act.

Representatives from Caymanas Track Limited and the Racehorse and Trainers Association made presentations to the committee.

The committee has been given until January 26 to complete its work and submit a report to the House of Representatives.
