Off-spinner Kenroy Williams captured a remarkable eight wickets, as the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) began its first trial match on Monday for the West Indies 2010 first-class season.
Playing for the Ryan Hinds XI at Queen's Park, Williams bagged eight for 35 and reduced Dwayne Smith's XI to 147 all out in just 46.4 overs.
At stumps, the Hinds XI were already ahead at 164 for seven but leaving local officials concerned about the batting failures ahead of the regional season starting next month.
For Smith's side, young Shamarh Brooks (34) and Smith (26) were the highest scorers.
Williams, a former national Under-19 captain who plays in Trinidad for W Connection Wanderers in the Barbados off-season, superbly contained the opposing batsmen in his 18.4 overs.
In Hinds XI's reply, attacking West Indies opener Dale Richards, with 54 off 60 balls, Alcindo Holder (31) and Roston Chase (30) have been the chief scorers so far against left-arm spinner Jamar Griffith (2-2) and medium pacer Smith (2-28).
