Ruling on bill-services case set for next year

Supreme Court Judge Roy Jones is to hand down his ruling in March next year in the billion-dollar lawsuit, which bill-payment company Paymaster Jamaica Ltd has brought against its competitor, GraceKennedy Remittance Services Ltd (GKRS), operaters of Bill Express.

The judge heard oral submissions yesterday from the lawyers representing the parties.

The lawyers are to hand in written submissions on new points of law raised during the submissions by December 31.

The judge said his decision would be handed down by the end of next term.

Audrey Marks, chief executive officer of Paymaster, has accused GKRS of breaching the copyright of a software programme which computer programmer Paul Lowe designed.

GKRS has denied the allegations and Lowe, a defendant in the suit, is contending that he has sole ownership of the software programme.
