Fast bowler Jerome Taylor could to be available for Jamaica's opening fixture against the Windward Islands in the 2010 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Four-day Regional Championship, which is set to bowl off in Jamaica on January 8.

Taylor, who aggravated a back injury in Australia during the first Test of the just-concluded three-match series between the West Indies and Australia, recently returned home and according to national coach Junior Bennett, tests have revealed that the injury is not too serious.

"The report is that it is not a stress fracture, which means that all he needs to do is some physio work and get fit again," explained Bennett when asked about the 23-year-old.

Gayle to miss tourney

Efforts to contact WICB medical consultant, Dr Akshai Mansingh, who worked with Taylor to provide further information proved futile as he is currently off the island.

If Taylor is passed fit, he will spearhead Jamaica's fast-bowling charge, which could also include Andrew Richardson, Andre Russell and Daren Powell.

Jamaica, who are looking for a third straight hold on the title, are expected to have in their line-up Brendan Nash, who was part of the Tests Down Under.

West Indies captain and Jamaica's first-choice captain, Christopher Gayle, is expected to miss most, if not all of the tournament due to commitments to play in Australia's lucrative domestic Twenty20 tournament.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced by the Jamaica Cricket Association that Jarrett Park and Kensington will host the other two first round matches.

Trinidad and Tobago will play the Combined Campuses and Colleges at Jarrett Park, while Barbados will go up against the Leeward Islands at Kensington Park.
