National netball representative Kasey Evering is now at home recuperating after a completing the second surgery on her left knee at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) on December 3.

Evering, who last represented Jamaica at the 2007 World Netball Championships in New Zealand, sustained damage to her meniscus and ACL earlier this year and completed her first surgery in June.

However, the towering defender said she had to return for a second operation at the UWI hospital because she was still feeling a lot of pain and was also unable to walk properly.

Feeling much better

"From I did this second surgery two weeks ago, my foot has been feeling much better because I am now able to walk a lot better than before," said Evering, who also represents Tivoli Gardens in the Jamaica Netball Association leagues.

Evering also admits that her rehabilitation process has been very tough, "but I just have to do what I have to do to get to the point I was before because I still want to play netball before my career is finished," she said.

The 26-year-old Evering noted that she would also be eyeing a comeback to the national team upon her return to competitive netball in March.

Misses representing Jamaica

"I plan to go back to the national team on my return to netball because I miss representing my country and I also miss playing competitively at the international level," said Evering, who made her debut for the Sunshine Girls in 2000.

However Evering, who plays both goal defence and goalkeeper, added that despite the recent successes by the Sunshine Girls at the international level, she is confident that she can regain her place in the national team.

"I think that once I recover properly and start playing competitively, I know I will be able to make that national team again. But I know that it is going to take a lot of hard work from me," Evering noted.

Jamaica won the silver medal at the FastNet Netball Championships in Manchester, England, in September. They then recorded 1-1 series draws against Australia and New Zealand here in October.
