Bottom-place August Town halted their miserable run in the Digicel Premier League (DPL) on Sunday, when they overcame a 0-2 deficit to outscore Arnett Gardens 4-2 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Bowl.

Put on the back foot by early goals from Kevin Wilson and and Kevin King in the 13th and 18th minutes respectively, August Town pulled a goal back in the 28th minute through Aphas Bernard, before Rohan McDonald, Kemel Mullings and substitute Jermaine Simpson struck in the second half to pivot them to their third win in 18 games.

"This game is one of the best games the guys have ever played," said a delighted-looking Dwight Morgan, interim player-coach of August Town, whose players celebrated on the pitch after the result.

Morgan departs

Morgan took over coaching duties at the club earlier this week after Calvert Fitzgerald and the club amicably parted ways. It is reported that the club in is in discussions with Paul Young to fill the post.

"We have been longing for a victory like this ... a win against a big team and it has boosted our morale. It's just a wonderful feeling," he added.

After the early strikes from Wilson and King, many thought it would be difficult for August Town. But thanks to Bernard's strike in the 28th minute, hope was renewed.

Hope then became reality when McDonald equalised in the 65th minute via a free-kick that swirled and dipped from about 35 yards out, and Mullings dismissed three defenders before tapping past goalkeeper Leighton Murray in the 80th minute.

Melee

Simpson topped off proceedings with a goal-mouth melee header in minute 92.

The result moved August Town to 15 points, the same as 10th and 11th place Humble Lions and Village United, while for Arnett Gardens, who were losing their ninth game in 18 outings, it left them 19 points.

"To be leading 2-0 and to lose 4-2 is terrible. We didn't show up at all," said a dejected looking Fabian Davis, Arnett Gardens' player/ coach who after the game sat down in the players dug-out and stared into the open.

Davis added: "It's totally unacceptable what happened here today. But credit to August Town, they came out with more purpose and deserved to win. We just have to remain focused and keep working harder,"
