Just when he should still be basking in his major motorsport achievement, newly-crowned Jamaica Karting Association's (JKA) champion driver Sheldon Morgan has decided to close this aspect of his career. The reigning champ has sights now set on circuit racing.

"I only want to race in the international meets," Morgan told Automotives.

At the close of 2009, Morgan won the Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy for amassing the most points for the season, giving him his first championship title.

Morgan, who made his debut five years ago, also won the Rotax Masters Class title.

Currently pursuing a first degree in computer studies and management at the University of Technology (UTech), Morgan said he wants to help other karters develop their skills.

"Although I will not be racing, I will still be working closely with the club," Morgan said. " I want to help out the new and inexperienced drivers. I have learnt a lot over the years and I want to give back something to the sport."

Breakthrough year

He described last season as the breakthrough year for him and if all goes well he may make his debut at the Dover Raceway this year.

When the JKA season speeds off on February 14, Morgan is expected to be coaching Garth Genus.

"Sheldon is an excellent driver, very competitive. I have learnt from him on the track, I have since adopted some of his driving tactics," said Genus.
