The debt-management programme and other strategies for the 2010-2011 fiscal year should also be agreed when the retreat ends at Jamaica House.

"This is more than a retreat. That is not a word that should be used when Jamaica and the world face the present challenges. What we had was a strategic review and planning summit," Daryl Vaz, information minister, told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday.

"We looked at the role and structure of government to see how we can improve efficiency and major investment projects for the short term," Vaz added.

He dismissed reports which surfaced yesterday that a Cabinet reshuffle was also discussed at the four-day meeting.

"That was not on the agenda and that is not an issue which the prime minister would need to consult with the Cabinet. That is the prime minister's decision and he can do it (a reshuffle) without any preamble and discussions," Vaz said.

The information minister said the Government would emerge from the summit ready to return to Parliament next week Tuesday to inform the country fully on the terms of the IMF programme and the medium-term economic framework.
