Less than 24 hours after burying his mother, Marsden Willocks was fatally shot just outside his gate by a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, leaving family and friends distraught.

The 30-year-old man from Red Bank, Royal Flat in Mandeville, who was contracted to the Jamaica Public Service Company, was shot on Sunday during a feud which involved his family and another family in the community.

This has dampened the spirits of community members who are crying injustice, especially given the recent loss of his mother.

Several persons, including family and friends, who were shaken by the news of the second death, had to be taken to the doctor to receive medical treatment.

While disclosing that he was still in disbelief, one member of the family said Willocks was the last person he expected to die that way.

"He was a quiet person and he is going to be sadly missed by all," he said.

"I don't know how we are going to manage because I have heard these things happening but I couldn't belief it would reach us," the family member added.

Efforts to get a comment from Willocks' father, with whom he had a close relationship, proved futile. The father was too traumatised to speak.

Ongoing feud

It is understood by The Gleaner that he, too, had to receive medical attention.

It is reported that an ongoing feud between the neighbours turned ugly and Willocks was killed by an officer dressed in plain clothes.

It is being argued that the police officer was not neutral as he is aligned to the other family and did not come as a peacemaker.

But reports from the Constabulary Communication Network stated that about 12:30 p.m., a policeman was called to quell a dispute between families in the community. While talking to members of one family, Willocks allegedly attacked the group with a knife and was shot by the officer. He was taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Bureau of Special Investigations is probing the issue.
