Western Bureau:

A sporting declaration by skipper Floyd Reifer yesterday set the stage for the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) to register an impressive 152-run win over Trinidad & Tobago (T&T), in their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Four-day Championship fixture at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

Trinidad and Tobago native Kavesh Kantasingh, who took six wickets for 29 runs in the first innings for the CCC team, was again the hero for his team, returning another impressive haul of six wickets for 56 runs off 22 overs to complete a match-haul of 12 for 85.

"I don't understand why people continue to say we are the underdogs because we are not ... we are a quality team with many players whohave represented the West Indies," said a satisfied skipper Reifer.

"We won four games in the second stage of last year's competition and we are again showing we are a good team," he added.

Resuming on their Saturday close-of-play score of 105 for four wickets, the CCC team, which was left disappointed when rain washed out Sunday's entire third day, went for quick runs to set up an early declaration.

Omar Phillips and skipper Floyd Reifer, who resumed on their overnight 52 and eight runs respectively, went after the T&T bowling and added a brisk 33 runs. However, with the score on 148, Reifer was brilliantly run out for 24 by a direct throw by Imran Khan.

Winning target

Reifer promptly declared the innings closed, setting the T&T team a winning target of 276. Phillips, who batted beautifully in the first innings for 88, was left unbeaten on an equally classy 70.

With 70 overs plus the mandatory 15 in the last hour to chase down the 276 needed for victory, T&T started well, posing 46 runs for the first wicket, before the aggressive Justin Guillen was caught close to the wicket by Omar Phillips off spinner Kantasingh for 32.

Afterwards, the innings went steadily into decline as T&T failed to mount a recovery and were eventually routed for 124.
