The Leeward Islands and Barbados played to a tame draw in their first-round West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-day Championship match at Kensington Park yesterday.
Set 223 to win, Barbados, who made 229 in their first innings, closed on 158 for seven when bad light stopped play at 4:40 p.m.
Earlier, the Leewards, who resumed on 186 for six, were dismissed for 216.
Runako Morton and Justin Anthanaze resumed their innings but it did not take long for Pedro Collins and Ryan Hinds to wrap up the innings.
Morton added 11 runs to his overnight score to be dismissed for 89, while Anthanaze fell for 18, as the last four wickets tumbled for nine runs.
Collins ended with five for 36 off 21 overs, while Hinds picked up five for 59 off 39.2 overs.
In the run-chase, Barbados got off to a rocky start, losing Dale Richards (zero), Jason Haynes (18), Kirk Edwards (19) and Hinds (20) to be 74 for four.
The Leewards' then went all out in attack but Kyle Hope (19) and Kevin Stoute (34) held them up with a patient and frustrated 28-run fifth-wicket stand.
Good catch
However, Omari Banks bowled Hope at 103 for six and Lionel Baker took a very good catch on the long-on boundary to dismiss Stoute, and the Leewards were again on target.
But Shamarh Brooks and Nikolai Charles batted defiantly and carried Barbados to safefy. Stoute was left not out on 31 off 80 deliveries, while Charles scored four off 26 balls.
Steve Liburd, the Leeward Islands captain, blamed his team for dropping catches.
"I think catches win matches and if we had held on to our chances earlier, it would have been a different story," he said.
Barbados skipper Hinds praised his bowlers, but believes they were let down by the batsmen.
"We bowled well as a team, both Pedro Collins and myself, to restrict them to 215," said Hinds.
He added: "The batters did not bat according to plan. We did not get the necessary partnerships and we lost wickets at crucial times."
