A plea against negative progress
THE EDITOR, Sir:

Jamaicans of a certain age are well aware that Jamaica was a far safer place back in the days when justice was severe, swift and sure.

Those days are now long gone.

A NEW low

The introduction of plea bargaining in Jamaica will surely bring the administration of justice in Jamaica to a new low. In addition to justice not being swift, severe or certain, it will now also be negotiable! Who will then be surprised if, in these circumstances, it should come to light that justice also ends up being "for sale"?

This change will result in a less safe Jamaica, where good citizens will have even less respect for the justice system. Clearly, this is a move in the wrong direction!

I am, etc.,
