Getting that million-dollar smile

Having that perfect smile is very important, especially in attracting the opposite sex. It is not cool to smile and all 32 are laced with plaque or are obviously decayed.

First impressions aside, it may not turn off some men if you have a great body, but for most women, if a guy has bad teeth, in an otherwise great package, they may not be interested. Some individuals try to hide their smile with their hands to conceal decaying teeth.

With advancements in dental care and hygiene, one can achieve that million-dollar smile in a relatively short time. For most people, getting that killer smile could mean choosing their parents because dental structure depends a lot on genetics, but since parental choice is not an option, we can, instead, buy the kind of smile we desire.

Proper care

Dr Vincent Keavney, dental surgeon at Spanish Court Dental, told Flair that achieving a perfect smile comes with proper care of the teeth as well as regular brushing and flossing. He notes that a sign hanging in his office reads, "You don't have to floss all your teeth, only the ones you don't want to lose." But visits to the dentist are important, at least every six months, for cleaning because plaque build-up has to be removed by a dentist.

"Choosing your diet carefully is also important; make sure that it does not contain sugar-laced foods that predispose you to cavities," said Keavney.

He also pointed out that staining of the teeth by constant intake of red wine, tea, or coffee could result in the loss of that lovely smile. But teeth can be improved with better care or by having a dentist whiten them.

He further noted that nowadays most dentists use white dental filling (a type of restorative dentistry treatment used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay or otherwise damaged surfaces of the teeth), because it looks more aesthetically presentable. However, if the tooth is severely broken down, where it is permanently stained, crooked, uneven, small (with spaces), or structurally damaged, then a porcelain laminate procedure will do the trick.

There are two types of laminate procedures on the market to correct discolouration and remove brown and yellow staining: one that is done directly and the other indirectly.

The direct procedure is called composite veneer procedure, which is an application of a bond and enamel that directly covers the tooth's surface.

The indirect procedure is called Porcelain Veneer procedure, where a very thin porcelain material is moulded by a dental technician and applied to the tooth.

Crowns

Also if the shape of your tooth needs restoration then adding dental crown or caps will guarantee you that longed for million-dollar smile.

Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully cups over the portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, fillings are dental restorations that fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth's new outer surface. Crowns can be made out of porcelain (meaning some sort of dental ceramic), metal (a gold or other metal alloy), or a combination of both. So, there is no excuse for having anything less than a million-dollar smile.
