Governor General Dr Patrick Allen and Mrs Allen paid tribute to the Pantomime Company ensemble last Thursday night when they went backstage after the performance of Runner Boy to meet the members of the cast, crew and orchestra.

The Governor General and Mrs Allen attended the performance as guests of the Third Battalion of the Jamaica Defence Force, which was hosting a fund-raiser.

Dr Allen expressed delight in the production which he described as "thrilling and timely as always, and speaks to the issues in Jamaican life which are relevant."

Impressed with costumes

He wished the cast well in their pursuit of excellence. Mrs Allen was particularly impressed with the costumes and the overall set which recreated the spirit of rural Jamaica of another time.

Members of the Pantomime Company were presented to Dr and Mrs Allen by the theatre's chairperson, Mrs Barbara Gloudon, who also scripted the production which has music by Grub Cooper, set by Michael Lorde, costumes by Anya Gloudon and lighting by Michael McDonald.

Runner Boy, which opened last Boxing Day, has completed more than 65 performances. The show will close early May.
